Battery Eater – Doggy ‘Classic’ (THT edition)

This is the Battery Eating Doggy in the ‘Classic’ edition

It’s based on old-fashioned, THT components that I insert one by one through the circuit board and then solder in place: labor-intensive, but beautiful.
It runs on a (dead) AAA battery.

Description

A sweet Battery Eating Doggy in the ‘Classic’ version.

This means its body (still) consists of an old-fashioned ‘Through Hole Technology’ (THT) circuit board, where the electronic components have to be inserted one by one (by me) through the circuit board before they can be soldered in place (also by me).
Time-consuming, but it’s beautiful; I still have quite a few of these circuit boards in stock – but this version will become a collector’s item.

These days, all electronics are based on ‘Surface Mount Technology’ (SMT), where electronic components are soldered directly onto the copper tracks by robots: See the new Battery Eating Doggy in the ‘SMT’ version.

Both the Battery Eating Doggy ‘Classic’ and the SMT versions run on ‘dead’ AAA batteries.
In most cases, they’ll blink their LED eyes for at least six months on a dead battery.
Only when that stops is the battery REALLY dead!
